FFA Students Placed 7th Overall in the Nation at FFA National Convention!

PV FFA Students Make History

8th Grader, Mesa Arnold, and 9th Grader, Zemery Weber, have made Platte Valley history! They are the first Agriscience project from Platte Valley Middle School or High School FFA to make it to the interview stage and have placed in the top 10 in the Nation for their category! These two, along with their mentor and teacher, Patti Koed, are headed to the FFA National Convention tomorrow to see where they place. Hear more about the project they presented at the state competition and learn about everything that got them to this point. Congratulations, Mesa and Zemery! We are so proud of you!

hey folks we're back with another aggra science fair Award winners would you guys mind introducing yourselves and kind of sharing a little bit more about your background yeah so I'm Mesa Arnold I'm zammy Weber this means to me that like we made history in that we are after like State Convention we've kind of been like the face of that Valley and so we just have like a lot of people looking up to us in the FFA like FFA here the start of our project was its social science and its consumer beef taste preferences that's what we did a project on so we out like a whole big group of people together and then they filled out a survey on their 3 3 types of beef and the 3 types of beef we had was crane finished crash Spanish and logging we just kind of wanted to figure out like if there was actually difference and if the consumers could like seriously taste the difference in which type of beef it was but like we even had in like in here in our it was our community that we had in our community there's a lot of beef producers that they they walked in all confident and they were like oh I definitely know what this meat is and then from the results there was like not a big difference so they were all kind of the same so it really showed that what you think the meat is and what the name of the meat is really doesn't depend on that it's basically like what you see at the grocery store and the pricing is the amount of marbling at State uh it was nerve-wracking because that was my first time competing that I had ever competed so I was really nervous but I think we had done so much with our project and we had known so much knowledge about it that we really knew what we were talking about and we it so we were just nervous to present not nervous about our topic this being the first group of middle school students that have competed in aggro science I didn't really know what to expect how they were going to compete against other you know in projects in the state but then also projects in the nation so it's really exciting to see that their hard work is paying off and that they're getting to have some success it's exciting for the kids to get to put those 2 together and be able to actually see that science is such an important part of Agriculture and to have girls representing um plant Valley as that science part is really exciting what was your reaction when you both realize that you qualify for Nationals I had just woken up from a nap I was like right in the middle of my nap and my mom came in like crying and I'm like what is going on and then she said you made top 10 for Nationals I'm like what so I was reading it and then I saw me and Z's names and I'm like oh oh wait we made a top 10 yeah that was the same story I was sleeping and then I got woken up from for my mom's telling me we made it to Nationals so it was really exciting and I think like my mom's taught here for what like 22 years I think and I don't think she's ever had this happen so it was fun to be the first ones yeah I don't know it feels accomplishing like we've accomplished something my hopes are probably be is maybe winning Nationals hopefully yeah I agree I think we could win Nationals I mean we are top 10 which is already like amazing but I think if we I I think me and Mesa could have the chance to win no matter what they have made history they have set the bar for future students and they have um just had great success and so I know like this coming year we have a whole group of students that are super represented about doing Agri science and Mesa will be a part of that and so it's pretty exciting just like knowing that I can go and reach my reach my goals and achieve my goals and any of the dreams that I want to because I know they're possible and especially being in this community with such a supportive Community I just know that like pursuing with excellence and just giving it all and trying my best you can always be a good option the amount of support this community has for us and the school and all the grown-ups and little kids it's been an amazing impact on means every slice
